FACT: Food Sensitivities Are A BIG Problem For A LOT Of People!

Keep in mind, hidden food sensitivities stress your IMMUNE SYSTEM, damage your gut, and spike inflammation in your body! This testing can be a game changer for you if you're struggling with any of the conditions listed below!

From The Desk Of Dr. Andrea Medina

Dear Friend,

In my clinic we have a saying…"We Don’t Guess...We FOOD TEST!" The Proof is in the Report!

Before we dive too deep, there is an important thing you MUST understand! You must understand the difference between Food Allergy & Food Sensitivity.

Food Allergy:
A food allergy is an exaggerated immune response triggered by eggs, peanuts, milk, or some other specific food. The body makes IgE antibodies to certain food proteins. Usually, it is an immediate response, and life-long.

Food Sensitivity:
Non-allergic food hypersensitivity is a term used widely for varied physiological responses associated with a particular food, or compound found in a range of foods. The body makes IgG antibodies to certain food proteins. You can have reactions 2 to 3 days later after eating a food.

It’s important to recognize the difference. We test for the DELAYED sensitivity response…not the immediate response. We’re testing the 10-12 hour...sometimes up to 72 hour immune response that makes it difficult for patients to figure out on their own!

Potential Causes Of A Food Sensitivity

Too much of one food. You can become sensitive to any food you eat too often. Many people eat a relatively small number of foods several times a day. For example, wheat, a common food sensitivity, is found in breakfast cereals, the bread used to make a sandwich at lunchtime, and the spaghetti eaten at dinnertime.

Leaky gut syndrome. The digestive tract plays a vital role in preventing illness and disease by providing a barrier. When the lining of the gut is inflamed from a food sensitivity, small openings develop between the tightly woven cells making up the gut walls. This is called “leaky gut syndrome". With leaky gut syndrome, partially digested dietary protein can cross the intestinal barrier into the bloodstream. These large protein molecules can cause an response, producing symptoms directly in the intestines or throughout the body.

Deficiency of Probiotics.
One of the causes of leaky gut is an absence of probiotics or ‘friendly’ bacteria in the intestines. The friendly bacteria help maintain the health of the intestines by producing fuel for intestinal cells and killing bad bacteria. Parasitic infections, treatment with antibiotics and other toxic pharmaceuticals, stress, poor diet (sugar and flour), smoking, alcohol, excessive hygiene, candida overgrowth can disrupt the proper balance of friendly bacteria to bad bacteria.

Over-worked immune system. Constant stress, exposure to air and water pollution, and pesticides and chemicals in our food puts a strain on our immune system, making it less able to respond appropriately to the antigens in food.

Genetics. Food allergies and intolerances seem to be hereditary. Research indicates that if both parents have allergies, their children have a sixty-seven percent chance of developing food allergies. When only one parent is allergic, the child has a 33% chance of developing food allergies. Specifically, a person may inherit a deficiency of an enzyme like lactase, the enzyme that digests dairy. With nightshade sensitivities, there are ten genetic variants for susceptibility, not all individuals are affected equally or at all. A similar case can be made for other food sensitivities. Genetic variations predict the severity of your sensitivity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What Happens On The Discovery Call?

Very simple. Dr. Medina will ask you some questions, do a thorough health history, and determine if you're a case she can accept. If she thinks she can help she'll give you that option. If she doesn't think she can help, she'll work to find somebody who can.

Are Your Programs Safe?

ABSOLUTELY! Our protocols are extremely safe and there is nothing like it. There are very few doctors that will do objective functional testing and work towards finding the ROOT CAUSE of the health challenge. Most simply give a med / chemical cover up.

Does Insurance Pay For Functional Medicine?

Unfortunately no insurance company pays for weight loss. Some might pay for Functional Medicine, but I have not experienced that. Most patients end up paying for their functional tests. However, if you're MOTIVATED we'll work with you. Our protocols are very affordable and keep in mind that we've never turned anybody away because of finances.

Where Is Your Clinic Located?

We are in Chicago, but I am becoming more and more virtual. The beautiful thing about functional medicine and our functional approach is that it can be done from ANYWHERE! After our initial discovery call (to determine if our protocol makes sense for you) we'll provide you with test kits so TOGETHER we can customize a safe, natural, & highly effective protocol based on YOUR individual needs.

Will I Have To Swallow A Lot Of Pills?

We will provide recommendations based on where you're nutrient deficient / depleted. Again, this is based on the testing that is performed. We'll give you supplement recommendations as well as give you food recommendations to eat more of, that are abundant in the nutrients where you're depleted.

Do You Provide Support / Accountability?

YES! Even though our functional protocols are done virtually, we provide 24/7 email support. If you have a question / obstacle to work through we'll provide you the support & guidance you need.
